Traffic Court Records in Morris County
In Kansas, each traffic ticket is filed by county. The officer files it where the violation is charged. Morris County District Court holds the state traffic cases. It also keeps fish and game citations, payments, and the full District Court file. A municipal court handles violations of its own city's ordinances instead. So check the back of the ticket. The court name printed there tells you where to search first.
Council Grove runs a municipal court with a published schedule. White City, Dwight, Parkerville, and Latimer post no public city docket or payment portal. Keep that in perspective. A blank District Court result does not mean a city ticket vanished. Call the court named on the citation.
Read the Morris Traffic Ticket
Turn the ticket over. The official 8th District traffic instructions show that the back of a ticket lists the court name, its address and phone, the due date, and any fine information available.

That same official page walks through contesting a ticket, diversion, costs, payment, and the published failure warnings. Not every offense carries a set fine on the ticket itself. The court supplies the current total.
- Due date
- The date by which the ticket requires a response or payment.
- Setting
- A scheduled traffic court event, not proof of an outcome.
- Diversion
- An alternative process for an eligible case, subject to approval and terms.
- Disposition
- The recorded result, which must be read from the case record.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
Give each channel its own job. The Central Payment Center searches eligible payments. Kansas Case Search opens the public District Court case events, and the Morris calendar PDF lists reference settings. The clerk keeps the District Court file. A municipal clerk holds any city case.
- Read the court name and due date from the citation.
- For a Morris District Court case, try Kansas Case Search and the Central Payment Center.
- Check the Morris Court Dockets PDF for an upcoming reference setting.
- If no result appears, call the named court. The District Court Clerk is reached at 620-767-6838, Option 1.
- Visit the correct counter or send a focused written request when a public copy is needed.
You will find the District Court counter at 501 W Main Street, Suite 12, in Council Grove. A Council Grove city citation does not belong there. It routes to the municipal court, even though both courts sit in Morris County.
Morris Payment Search Fields
The Central Payment Center gives you several ways to find an eligible account, and its payment search screen lays out each route. Remember what it is: an official-linked payment vendor, not a complete traffic docket. A failed vendor search is never a court disposition.

These fields help match a payment to its court docket entry. They do not replace the public events index or the clerk copy.
| Search route | Required companion field |
|---|---|
| Citation or case number | Date of birth in MM/DD/YYYY format |
| Driver's-license number | Issuing state |
| Vehicle plate | Plate state |
| First and last name | Date of birth |
| Business name | Business identity |
Enter private identifiers only in the official transaction form. Keep them out of a clerk email or a public search example unless the court itself requires that secure route.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
Check the ticket's due date first. A District Court setting may also surface in the Morris reference PDF or in the Case Search events index. Compare the two, then call the clerk if a continuance, reset, or remote setting could have shifted things. The PDF updates only about twice weekly.
| Case number | A safe Morris traffic example is MR-2026-TR-#####; use the real number only in official systems. |
|---|---|
| Court | Morris County District Court or the municipal court printed on the citation. |
| Date and time | The due date or current hearing setting; verify changes with the named court. |
| Judge | The judicial officer assigned to that setting. |
| Setting | First appearance, plea, trial, review, status, or another public event label. |
| Procedural note | A continuance, appearance method, or other public instruction when listed. |
A trial setting on the calendar is not proof a trial happened.
Morris Traffic Portal Has No Result
A missing result has several innocent causes. The ticket may not have reached the system yet, it may sit in a municipal court, or it may need a different citation or case number. Some tickets are simply ineligible for online payment. Call the court by the due date rather than waiting on a vendor result.
Ask the clerk whether the ticket has arrived, whether it is a state or city case, which number applies, and which response date controls. Hold on to your original ticket. A payment search never replaces a filed notice or direct instruction from the court.
An absent account does not cancel a court date. Your Morris County traffic court date and duty to respond still stand.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
Want to fight the ticket? The official traffic page says to call the court by the due date. Ask for a trial setting. Eligible payment runs through the Central Payment Center, which adds a vendor transaction fee. That fee is not a fixed amount on the public screen. Review the displayed total before you authorize payment.
| Paying | Contesting |
|---|---|
| Confirm that the case is eligible and obtain the current court total. | Call the court named on the ticket by the due date. |
| Use the approved payment route or court counter. | Ask for the plea or trial-setting process that applies to the case. |
| Keep the receipt and verify the case event. | Keep the setting notice and verify later changes. |
For diversion or plea negotiations, the published number for the Morris County Attorney's Office is 620-767-5899. Neither the payment vendor nor the clerk grants diversion.
Do not miss the response date: The court warns that failure to pay can lead to license suspension under K.S.A. 8-2110. When appearance is required, a judge may issue a bench warrant after a failure to appear.
Morris Traffic Relief Forms
The 8th District offers forms for asking the court to waive or reduce traffic fines, costs, or reinstatement fees. The packet contains a motion, a proposed order, and a poverty affidavit. Filing a form only starts the request.
- Motion to Waive or Reduce Traffic Fines, Costs, or Reinstatement Fees
- Order on the traffic motion
- Poverty Affidavit
Complete the papers and present them to the court as instructed. Keep an applicant's financial details private. Ask the named court how filing, service, and a hearing are handled.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
These are two files with two custodians. The Clerk of the District Court keeps the Morris County traffic case record for state citations, while a municipal court keeps its own ordinance case. The Kansas Division of Vehicles maintains the driver record separately. No office can stand in for the other's file.
| Point | Court traffic record | Driver record |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | District Court Clerk or issuing municipal court | Kansas Division of Vehicles |
| Core contents | Citation, settings, filings, plea, disposition, costs, and payments | State licensing history and actions maintained by the agency |
| Access route | Case Search, calendar, court counter, phone, or copy request | Division of Vehicles services |
The driver record matters here only to steer you away from the wrong office. A court search answers what happened in the citation case.
2025 Morris Traffic Record Counts
The Kansas Judicial Branch publishes annual traffic tables. They offer useful context for Morris County. They are not a live count of pending cases. For 2025, the Traffic Filings table shows 386 filings in Morris County. The classification columns list 385 motor-vehicle violations, 300 infractions, one felony, one other, and zero ordinance or parking entries in the Morris row.
Dispositions ran separately that year, totaling 377. Of those, 278 ended in guilty pleas. Deferred or diversion accounted for 53, dismissals for 45, and one fell under other. No jury or court trials appear. Remember that filings and dispositions count different case cohorts, so the two totals are not directly comparable.
The official Census place table provides geographic context for the county's incorporated places.

Fees and Copies
Fees depend on which court holds the file. A District Court traffic copy follows the local 8th District copy policy. Municipal citations follow that municipal court's terms. Ask for a current estimate, and say whether you want a plain copy, a file-stamped copy, a certified copy, or the complete public traffic file.
| Item | Published amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Plain copies, 1 to 4 pages | $1.00 minimum | District Court policy |
| Five pages | $1.25 | District Court policy |
| Six pages | $1.50 | District Court policy |
| Added pages | $0.25 each | After listed increments |
| Public-file research | $12 per hour minimum | Plus copies and prepayment |
| Certified copy | Confirm with clerk | No complete non-attorney schedule located |
For mailed file-stamped or certified copies, include a prepaid addressed envelope, one per case. The payment vendor adds a transaction fee as well. The exact amount appears at checkout.
Morris Traffic Court Custodians
Direct your request to the office that owns the case. The District Court clerk keeps state traffic files. Council Grove Municipal Court handles its city-ordinance citations. For other city matters, use the municipal office printed on the citation, and never send a District Court file request to the separate Morris County administrative Clerk.
